Dental Tourism in India: 100 Questions on Costs, Packages & Travel

Everything UK & European patients ask before travelling to India for dental treatment — cost, safety, treatments, travel, aftercare and more, answered honestly by Dr. Bandhavi and the Tooth Simplified team.

Thinking about travelling to India for dental implants, crowns, veneers or a smile makeover? You will have questions — and you should. Below are the 100 most common questions UK and European patients ask about dental tourism in India, grouped into ten clear sections. Tap any question to read the answer. Where we have a full in-depth guide, you will find a link to it.

Dental tourism in India: what it costs and how it works

Short answer: Dental tourism in India means having treatment here at Indian prices — 60 to 80% less than the UK, US, Canada or Australia — with no international mark-up on the clinical work. A single implant with its crown is $300, a zirconia crown $80 and a porcelain veneer $120–200. Most crown, veneer and bridge work is completed in one trip of 7 to 10 days; implants need two stages three to six months apart.

Overseas patients pay the same clinical prices as local patients. Flights, hotel, transfers and any sightseeing are arranged and itemised separately, and depend on your dates and length of stay, so fixed package prices are not published.

How a dental trip to India actually works

It starts before you fly. You send your X-rays or a CBCT and photographs, we come back with a treatment plan, an itemised quote and the number of appointments it needs — so you book flights around a real itinerary rather than a guess. On arrival there is a full examination and any imaging needed, and the plan is confirmed or adjusted before treatment starts. Appointments are spaced so the lab has time to work, and you leave two clear days before flying home in case anything needs adjusting.

The questions worth asking any dental tourism clinic

Which implant or ceramic brand is used, and is it serviceable at home? Who performs the treatment, and what is their qualification? What happens if something needs redoing after you fly back? Is the quote itemised by procedure, so your insurer can process it? At Tooth Simplified, treatment is led by Dr. Bandhavi, MDS (Endodontics), an endodontist and implant dentist. Plan your dates with the trip planner, check the best months to travel, and see how to claim on your insurance.

Cost & Savings

How much can I save on dental treatment in India compared to the UK?

Most UK and European patients save 65-85% on dental treatment in India, even after flights and accommodation. A single implant that costs $2,700-$3,400 in the UK is around $470-$810 in India; a full-mouth restoration drops from $33,750+ to roughly $5,400-$8,100. Read our full guide: Dental Implant Cost: India vs UK, US & Australia →

Why is dental treatment in India so much cheaper than the UK or Europe?

The price difference comes from lower labour, premises and overhead costs in India, not lower quality. A dental technician earns a fraction of a UK salary, and clinic rent and running costs are far lower. Materials and implant brands are the same internationally-recognised ones used in the West.

Are there hidden costs in dental tourism packages?

A reputable clinic gives you a fixed, itemised quote before you travel with no hidden extras. At Tooth Simplified your quote covers consultation, imaging, the procedure and follow-up. Always ask in writing what is and is not included before booking flights.

How much do dental implants cost in India?

A single dental implant in India costs roughly $470-$810 including the crown, compared to $2,700-$3,400 in the UK. All-on-4 full-arch implants are around $6,100 per arch versus $20,250+ in the UK. Read our full guide: Dental Implant Cost: India vs UK, US & Australia →

How much does a full mouth restoration cost in India?

A complete full-mouth restoration in India typically costs $5,400-$8,100 depending on the treatment mix, compared with $33,750-$60,800 in the UK, US or Australia. Read our full guide: Full Mouth Restoration in India →

Is the cost of flights and hotels worth it for small treatments?

For a single filling or one crown, the savings may not outweigh travel costs. Dental tourism makes the most financial sense for implants, multiple crowns, full-mouth work or smile makeovers, where savings run into thousands of pounds. Many patients combine several treatments into one trip to maximise value.

How much does a root canal cost in India compared to the UK?

A root canal in India costs around $55-$120 versus $410-$1,600 in the UK, and that usually includes the crown that protects the tooth afterwards. Read our full guide: Root Canal Cost: India vs UK →

What is included in an all-inclusive dental tourism package?

A typical all-inclusive package covers airport pickup, hotel accommodation, local transport to and from the clinic, all consultations and imaging, and the treatment itself. You arrange your own international flights. Read our full guide: How to Plan a Dental Trip to India →

Do I pay before or after treatment?

You normally pay in stages as treatment progresses, not the full amount upfront. A small deposit may secure your appointment dates; the balance is paid at the clinic during your visit. You should never be asked to wire a large sum before arriving.

Will I get an itemised invoice for my treatment?

Yes. You receive a detailed itemised invoice listing each procedure, which is useful for your records and for any insurance reimbursement claim back home. Read our full guide: Dental Tourism Documents Checklist →

How much does teeth whitening cost in India?

Professional teeth whitening in India costs around $110-$200 compared with $270-$810 in the UK, using the same Philips Zoom and laser systems. Read our full guide: Teeth Whitening Cost in India →

How much does a smile makeover cost in India?

A full smile makeover in India typically costs $3,400-$8,100 depending on the number of veneers and treatments, versus $24,300-$47,250 in the UK. Read our full guide: Smile Makeover Cost: India vs UK →

Safety & Quality Standards

Is it safe to get dental treatment in India?

Yes, provided you choose an established clinic with an internationally-trained dentist, certified materials and proper sterilisation. India treats large numbers of UK, US and Australian dental patients each year with excellent outcomes. Read our full guide: Is India Safe for Dental Treatment? →

Are Indian dentists qualified to international standards?

Leading Indian dental specialists hold postgraduate MDS degrees and often additional international training. Always check your dentist holds a recognised qualification and has documented experience treating international patients.

What sterilisation and hygiene standards do good Indian clinics follow?

Reputable clinics use autoclave sterilisation, single-use disposables, sealed instrument pouches and strict cross-infection protocols equivalent to UK and EU standards. Ask to see the clinic sterilisation area or photos before you book.

Is the dental equipment in India modern?

Top clinics use the same modern equipment found in Western practices, including CBCT 3D scanners, digital intra-oral scanners and CAD/CAM milling. The technology gap that existed decades ago no longer applies at quality clinics.

Are dental implants in India safe?

Yes. At a reputable clinic using established implant systems, success rates in India match the global benchmark of around 97-98%. Safety depends on the dentist, the implant brand and proper aftercare. Read our full guide: Is It Safe to Get Implants in India? →

What implant and crown brands are used in India?

Quality clinics use the same internationally-recognised brands as Western practices, such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Osstem for implants, and Ivoclar E-max and zirconia for crowns. Read our full guide: Dental Crowns in India: Cost & Types →

What happens if something goes wrong with my treatment?

Reputable clinics provide a warranty on implants and major restorations and offer remote follow-up support. If an issue arises after you return home, the clinic will advise, arrange corrective treatment, or coordinate with a local dentist.

Do Indian clinics use the same implant brands as UK clinics?

Yes. The leading global implant systems are sold worldwide, so a quality Indian clinic places the same brands a UK clinic would. Ask your clinic to confirm in writing which system they will use.

Could I get an infection from water or food during treatment?

Dental procedures use sterile water and your clinic will advise on aftercare. As a general travel precaution, drink bottled or filtered water and eat at reputable places, especially in the days around surgery.

How do I verify a clinic is legitimate before booking?

Check for genuine Google reviews from international patients, verify the dentist registration and qualifications, ask for a written treatment plan, and confirm which implant and material brands they use. A trustworthy clinic answers all of this clearly.

What are the risks of getting dental work done abroad?

The main risks are choosing an under-qualified clinic, communication gaps, and limited local follow-up after you return. All three are managed by selecting an experienced clinic that treats international patients and provides ongoing remote support.

What is the success rate of dental implants in India?

At an experienced clinic, dental implant success rates in India are around 97-98%, in line with the international standard. Long-term success depends heavily on aftercare and not smoking. Read our full guide: Is It Safe to Get Implants in India? →

Dental Implants

What is an all-on-4 dental implant?

All-on-4 is a technique that replaces a full arch of teeth using just four implants to anchor a fixed bridge. It is a cost-effective, fixed alternative to dentures and can often be loaded with teeth the same day. Read our full guide: All-on-4 Dental Implants in India →

Can I get same-day dental implants in India?

Yes. With immediate-load (same-day) implants, the implant and a temporary fixed tooth are placed in one appointment for suitable candidates. The permanent crown is fitted once the implant has integrated. Read our full guide: Same-Day Dental Implants in India →

How long does the dental implant process take?

A single implant typically needs two trips a few months apart, or one longer trip, because the implant must fuse with the bone before the final crown is fitted. Same-day implant techniques shorten the visible timeline considerably.

Do I need to make two trips to India for implants?

Often yes, for conventional implants: trip one places the implant, trip two fits the final crown after healing. Same-day and all-on-4 protocols can reduce this, and some patients have the final restoration fitted by a dentist at home.

How long is recovery after dental implant surgery?

Initial soft-tissue healing takes about 1-2 weeks, with most patients comfortable within a few days. Full bone integration takes 3-6 months before the permanent crown is placed. Read our full guide: Dental Implant Recovery Timeline →

Can I fly home after dental implant surgery?

Most patients can fly 24-72 hours after routine implant surgery once initial bleeding and swelling settle. Wait longer after extensive surgery or a sinus lift, and always follow your dentist specific advice. Read our full guide: Can I Fly After Dental Implant Surgery? →

What is the difference between all-on-4 and all-on-6?

Both restore a full arch on implants; all-on-6 uses six implants instead of four for extra support, often chosen when bone volume allows or for heavier bite forces. Your dentist recommends the right option after a 3D scan.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most healthy adults with missing teeth are candidates. Key factors are enough jawbone, healthy gums and being a non-smoker or willing to stop. A CBCT scan confirms suitability, and bone grafting can make implants possible where bone is low.

Do I need a bone graft before implants?

Some patients need a bone graft or sinus lift when there is not enough bone to hold the implant securely, often after long-term tooth loss. This is assessed from your 3D scan and can sometimes be done at the same time as implant placement.

How long do dental implants last?

A well-placed, well-maintained implant can last 20+ years and often a lifetime. The crown on top may need replacing after 10-15 years of wear. Good oral hygiene and not smoking are the biggest factors in longevity.

Treatments & Procedures

Porcelain veneers in India cost around $200-$340 per tooth compared with $810-$1,600 in the UK, using premium materials such as Ivoclar E-max. Read our full guide: Veneers in India – Complete Guide →

What is the difference between veneers and crowns?

Planning Your Trip

How do I plan a dental trip to India?

Start by sending photos and any X-rays for a free remote assessment, receive a treatment plan and quote, then agree dates. The clinic helps coordinate accommodation and local logistics around your appointment schedule. Read our full guide: How to Plan a Dental Trip to India →

How long should I stay in India for dental treatment?

Plan around 5-7 days for crowns, veneers or a smile makeover, and 7-14 days for extensive work. Implants usually need a second trip after a few months of healing.

What is the best time of year to visit India for dental work?

October to March is the most comfortable season in North India with pleasant weather for sightseeing. Treatment is available year-round, and clinics are fully air-conditioned, so any month works if dates suit you.

Can I combine dental treatment with a holiday?

Yes, and many patients do. Treatment days are usually short, leaving time to visit the Taj Mahal, Delhi, Jaipur and other destinations. Plan sightseeing for healing days rather than immediately after surgery.

Should I travel alone or bring someone with me?

You can travel alone, as clinics support international patients throughout. A companion is helpful for extensive surgery, for rest and reassurance, and many patients bring a partner who also enjoys the trip.

How far in advance should I book?

Booking 4-8 weeks ahead is ideal so you can secure good flight prices and arrange your visa. Urgent cases can often be accommodated faster once a treatment plan is agreed.

What happens on my first day at the clinic?

Your first appointment involves a full examination, any necessary scans and X-rays, confirmation of your treatment plan and costs, and the start of treatment where possible. You will have time to ask questions before anything proceeds.

Can I get a treatment plan and quote before I travel?

Yes. Send clear photos and any recent X-rays and you receive a provisional treatment plan and fixed quote before booking anything, so there are no surprises. Read our full guide: How to Plan a Dental Trip to India →

What if I need to change my travel dates?

Tell the clinic as early as possible and appointment dates can usually be rescheduled. Booking flexible or refundable flights is sensible in case treatment timing shifts slightly.

2026 dental tourism packages: what's included

Most international patients choose one of three package tiers. Exact pricing is indicative and confirmed only after Dr. Bandhavi reviews your X-rays/scans during a virtual or in-person exam.

  • Essential: single treatment (e.g. one implant, one crown, RCT) + treatment plan + aftercare instructions. Best for a short, focused trip.
  • Standard: multi-treatment plan (e.g. full-mouth restoration or All-on-4) + airport pickup + hotel booking assistance near the Vaishali clinic + a dedicated care coordinator.
  • Premium: everything in Standard + extended recovery-stay hotel package + local sightseeing add-ons + priority scheduling so your itinerary needs only one India trip.

Your treatment journey: step-by-step timeline

  1. Before you fly: share X-rays/photos for a free quote, get a written treatment plan and cost estimate from Dr. Bandhavi.
  2. Day 1: in-person consultation and exam confirms the final plan; airport pickup if you booked the Standard/Premium package.
  3. Day 2-3: primary treatment (implant placement, RCT, crown prep, veneer prep, etc.) depending on procedure complexity.
  4. Recovery days: built into your itinerary for procedures needing healing time (e.g. implants, All-on-4) before final restoration.
  5. Final visit: fitting/finishing (crown seating, final adjustments), aftercare guide, and a follow-up plan with your home dentist.

Most single-treatment trips need 3-5 days in India; implant and full-mouth cases typically need two visits spaced a few months apart for healing, or a longer single stay with a temporary restoration in between.
