The Short Answer: Yes, You Can
One of the most common questions from international patients is: “Can I start my Invisalign or clear aligner treatment in India and continue wearing the aligners when I get back to the UK (or US, Australia, or Europe)?”
The answer is yes — and it’s one of the most cost-effective ways to straighten your teeth. Thousands of patients do exactly this every year. Here’s how it works at Tooth Simplified.
How the Process Works
Before Your Trip: Remote Consultation
Send us photos of your smile (front, side, biting together). Our orthodontist will assess your case and let you know whether clear aligners are suitable for you, which brand we recommend, and an estimated treatment duration and cost.
Trip 1: Scan, Plan & Fitting (3–5 Days in India)
On arrival, we perform a full iTero digital scan of your teeth. We design your treatment plan using ClinCheck software — you see a virtual preview of your end result before any treatment begins. We fit attachments (small tooth-coloured bumps that help the aligners grip your teeth) and give you your first batches of aligners (typically enough for 3–6 months of treatment).
At Home: Wear, Monitor & Progress
You wear each set of aligners for 1–2 weeks, progressing through your treatment at home. We conduct regular remote check-ins via WhatsApp or video call — you send us photos of your teeth in each aligner set and we monitor your progress.
Trip 2 (Optional): Mid-Treatment Review or Refinements
Depending on your case, you may want to visit us again after 6–9 months for refinements (additional aligners to fine-tune the result). This trip is shorter — typically 2–3 days. Many patients combine it with another holiday.
Retainers
Once your treatment is complete, you’ll need retainers to maintain your new smile. We provide custom retainers, and you can also have retainers made locally by a dentist back home using your aligner records.
Cost Comparison: Aligners India vs UK
| Treatment | UK Cost | India Cost (Tooth Simplified) | Savings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invisalign Full | £3,500–£5,500 | £800–£1,500 | 70–75% |
| Invisalign Lite | £2,000–£3,000 | £500–£900 | 70% |
| Spark Aligners | £3,000–£4,500 | £700–£1,200 | 70–75% |
Is It Safe to Continue Aligners Without Being in India?
Yes — modern clear aligner therapy is designed for remote monitoring. Align Technology (makers of Invisalign) even has its own remote monitoring platform. Our remote check-in protocol means we track your progress at every aligner stage and can flag any concerns early.
If you ever need in-person help locally, we provide full documentation and treatment records that any orthodontist in your home country can use to continue your care.
What If Something Goes Wrong?
The most common issue patients encounter is an aligner not tracking correctly — meaning the teeth aren’t moving as expected. In this case, we address it via remote consultation first. If refinements are needed, you can either visit us again or in some cases have a local dentist take new impressions (we guide you through this).
Who Is This Right For?
Starting aligners in India and continuing at home is ideal if you:
- Can spare 4–7 days for the initial trip to India
- Are comfortable with remote check-ins via photos/video
- Want to save 60–75% on aligner treatment costs
- Don’t mind returning for a refinement visit if needed (optional for most cases)
