What to send for an accurate remote assessment
The more the dentist can see, the better the estimate:
- Photos — front smile, upper and lower teeth from above, and close-ups of any specific problem, in good daylight.
- A recent X-ray — a panoramic (OPG) is ideal; individual X-rays help too. This is the single most valuable thing you can share for implants, root canals and extractions.
- Your concerns — what you want fixed, and any pain, in your own words.
- Dental and medical history — past treatments, allergies, medications, conditions like diabetes.
What you get back
A good clinic responds with a written summary: what it sees, the realistic treatment options (with trade-offs), an indicative cost range, the number of visits and rough timeline, and the materials or implant brands involved. That lets you budget, book flights sensibly and compare clinics like-for-like. If you are unsure the clinic communicates well across time zones, our guide on whether dentists in India speak English covers what to expect.
How accurate is a remote quote, really?
For straightforward work — cleanings, whitening, most crowns and veneers — remote estimates are usually close. For implants and complex cases, treat the number as a well-informed range, not a fixed price, because bone quality and quantity, hidden infection, or the need for a bone graft or sinus lift may only become clear from a clinical exam and a 3D scan (CBCT) on arrival. A clinic that explains why the figure could move is being honest; one that guarantees a rock-bottom all-inclusive price sight-unseen is often the one that adds costs later.
Red flags when getting quotes
Be cautious of a firm, final quote given with no X-ray and no questions; pressure to pay a large deposit immediately; a quote that just says “implant” with no brand or number of visits; and prices that are far below everyone else’s (something is usually being left out). Reputable remote quotes are detailed, itemised and clearly marked as indicative pending examination.
How to compare two quotes fairly
Line them up on the same terms: the implant brand and model, the crown/veneer material, how many implants or units, how many visits, what aftercare and warranty are included, and what is excluded (X-rays, grafts, temporaries). The cheapest headline number is often not the cheapest complete treatment.
Then comes the in-person confirmation
On arrival you get a clinical exam and, where needed, a CBCT scan, after which the plan and price are finalised and you sign consent before anything is done. This two-step approach — indicative plan remotely, confirmed plan in person — is exactly how safe dental tourism should work, and it maps onto the visit schedule in our guide to how long to stay in India for dental implants.
Frequently asked questions
Does a remote consultation cost anything?
Many clinics, including ours, provide an initial remote assessment and indicative quote at no charge. You are under no obligation.
Can the price change after I arrive?
It can be refined once the dentist examines you and reviews a 3D scan, up or down. A trustworthy clinic tells you in advance what might change it and confirms the final figure before starting.
What if I don’t have a recent X-ray?
Send clear photos and your history; a full assessment and any needed X-ray happen on your first visit. The remote estimate is simply a starting range.
A little preparation turns an overseas dental trip from a leap of faith into a planned decision. Send us photos and any X-ray and we will send back an honest, itemised plan — start on WhatsApp +91 92174 22917 or map your dates with our trip planner.
