What is a single-sitting root canal?
In a single-sitting RCT, the dentist cleans, shapes and fills the tooth’s canals in one go, usually within 45–90 minutes. With modern rotary instruments and an MDS Endodontist’s skill, many teeth can be safely treated this way — saving you a second and third trip.
When single-sitting works well
- Front teeth and many premolars with healthy surrounding tissue.
- Teeth without active, draining infection at the root tip.
- Cases where the canals are accessible and not unusually curved.
- Patients who simply want it done in one visit and have no complications.
When it is better to split into visits
Single-sitting is not always the safest choice. Your dentist may recommend two visits if there is:
- An active abscess or significant infection that needs medication to settle first.
- A re-treatment of a previously failed root canal.
- Very curved or calcified canals that take longer to clean thoroughly.
Choosing the right approach for your tooth is exactly the kind of judgement an MDS Endodontist is trained for. Rushing every tooth into one visit can cause problems; so can needlessly splitting a simple one.
Cost in Vaishali
A single-sitting root canal is priced the same as a standard RCT — indicatively from ₹3,000 for a simple tooth, confirmed after an X-ray. See the full root canal cost guide. A protective crown is recommended afterwards and priced separately.

Is a single-sitting root canal safe?
Yes, for suitable teeth. Many front teeth and premolars without active infection can be safely completed in one visit by a trained endodontist. Some cases are safer split into two visits.
How long does a single-visit root canal take?
Usually 45–90 minutes, depending on the tooth and the number of canals.
When should a root canal be done in two visits instead?
When there is an active abscess or heavy infection, a re-treatment of a failed root canal, or very curved or calcified canals that need more time to clean thoroughly.
Does single-sitting cost more than a normal root canal?
No. It is priced the same as a standard root canal — indicatively from ₹3,000 for a simple tooth, confirmed after examination.
Is a single-sitting root canal painful?
No. With proper local anaesthesia the procedure is comfortable; most patients feel only mild pressure.
